Staying close to home

Since Nojah and I got back from Bangladesh we have been trying to stay as close to home as possible. I mean if this is what you saw everyday wouldn't you stay home too? Besides work and school there are a few other things we have been up too, and sorry but blogging clearly hasn't been one of them.

Exploring our local library. The kids have borrowed books in the past and use their school library all the time of course, but I have a bad habit of buying books instead of utilizing one of our greatest resources, THE LIBRARY. I have already borrowed 3 this past week and read 2 of them. So besides loitering there, you will find me wrapped up in my PJ's under a fuzzy warm blanket and a hot cup of coffee enjoying a good book.

Running! I can't get enough of it right now. It makes me happy. The snow has finally melted off and I am able to get in a few trail runs behind the house. In fact it made me so happy that I ran twice yesterday. The views were so beautiful that after I got home I waited for Tob to get home and an hour later joined him on a run up the hill behind our house again just for the views and to get some pictures and logging 9.66 miles for the day.

Beautiful country bike rides with the family. However after a minor frostbite issue with my toes, there will not be any "family" rides under 45 degree's anymore, regardless if the sun is shining or not :-)

Snowboarding and Skiing! It's a long drive for us, but worth it with the free 5th and 6th grade program offered by Anthony Lakes. The kids have gotten to spend time with friends and family and are really finally getting it after starting when they were toddlers. Our goal is to get them up there 6 weeks in a row. If they keep the program alive, then for the next 4 years we will have one free kid and $15 adult tickets every Sunday for 8 weeks of the year. SWEET deal! Otherwise we are too cheap to go at $35 per adult and $21 per child, gas, and lessons if needed.

Anyway, there you have it, the Chamberlain's winter life in a nutshell. Oh ya, there's been a lot of cooking around this joint as well with homemade hummus, flat bread, just good old fashion bread, guacamole, granola, and granola bars, muffins, soups, etc. Today I will be cooking my first London Broil, some more granola bars, and whipping up some big soft pretzels for an after school snack :-) Now that I have blogged I have a date with the couch and a book!

Sheesh, I wanna live with YOU! You live in the perfect part of Oregon and you have a library and you eat great food. I'm not sure about the running part, but the views sound magnificent. ;) Oh, and you are not CHEAP about the snowboarding. You are frugal--how else can you manage those trips to Bangladesh, etc! Gotta save up for the next one. :) How did your granola bars turn out?

Granola bars turned out awesome. They were chewy with chocolate chips. The kids loved them. Probably not the healthiest but I can read all the ingredients and they have to be better then the store bought ones and without all the packaging to throw away. Win Win! You can come live by me. Their is a house down the street for sale and I am not concerned about earthquakes here, so come on over :-)

We love the library as well! One of our favorite things. and I wish running was one of my favorite things... I actually do enjoy it but will not venture out into the cold to do it. or the hot, for that matter... haha I'm picky with my running conditions.
We want to go snowboarding- I think this weekend hopefully! Francisco's never been!

Fun! I might be tempted to run for those views... Okay maybe not run, but drive for sure. :) I'll let you do the running - you do it well.
