Home Again.......

So obviously we made it home from our trip, but it looks like I have some catching up to do.  We have been running since the day we arrived back in the states.  Our trip to Jordan was incredible and is probably tied with Thailand for my favorite country visited.  All the middle eastern stereotypes have been erased from my brain and I hope that we have erased them from others as well.  Jordan was filled with nothing but the utmost welcoming, hospitable people I have ever met and I can say that NEVER in 1 month of traveling around the country did I ever feel unsafe.  The muslims value family and Friday's are spent picnicking, walking, swimming, or just sitting around smoking hookah's together.  It was pretty great to watch.  I could not give this country any higher of a recommendation than this.  The country, people, scenery, history, and beauty is something that will never be forgotten!!

Now that we are back, life has started up where we left off.  Nojah has returned to track practice and is slowly making up a month's worth of school work. Lex is starting softball and just slid back into everyday life at school. Today Nojah and I went to the lake to work on his poetry together while Lex was away at WREN(a wonderful local outdoor program).  It was a beautiful day and somewhat inspirational.  He has been a little frustrated and overwhelmed with the amount of work he is required to make up and I have been a little frustrated at the rate/speed in which he is getting it done.  He's the KING of procrastination.  He still admits that the trip was worth the make up work but that attitude is starting to fade.

Barley got to join us for the day as well and enjoyed playing in the water, hiking the trails and meeting and greeting new people.  However he didn't enjoy it when mom tied him to the picnic table to keep him still for a bit while we worked.

It was the moment's like these that both my boy's were happy today.  All said and done, I think he finished 3 poems, enjoyed lunch at Embers, played with the dog in the water, and got a hike in.  I wish all homework days could be this good!

Love it. I don't blame Nojah though...who wants to do HOMEWORK--especially so much of it! Keep on 'him Mom.

I think, unfortunately the media gives Middle Eastern countries a bad rap and we can get some bad impressions that way. It goes both ways though... I think they have seen things like our "Jerry Springer" shows and think we're all like the people on them! I do wonder how the various countries differ though. All I know after dating some Middle Eastern guys is that women are treated much differently and I am eternally grateful I wasn't foolish enough to pursue what I now know (looking back) were some very ignorant relationships (on my part). I don't know if we've ever talked about that or not. It has caused some bias on my part but not to the Middle East as a whole. I am appalled at how many of my "Christian" co-workers talk about Muslims as a whole. Not at all Christlike I can say. And I'm rambling! What's new!!!

You should post the poems. :)

I enjoy hearing about your adventures and learning through you. I really learn so much!

Sorry you have to do homework Nojah! but I'm not that sorry; You got to go to Jordan! That is way better than just not having homework.
