Yesterday was the big christmas tree hunt. Hunting went much quicker this year then in the past. We found our perfect tree within 20 minutes of being out, enjoyed throwing snowballs and Alexyss making angels.
It took all 4 of us to take down this monster. Tob to start the cutting, Nojah to finish the cutting, Alexyss to wrestle it down and myself to capture it all on film.
Then we loaded the tree while the kids frolicked in the snow and headed down the road to home. About 3 minutes into the drive we spotted a large cougar standing in the middle of the road. He watched us for a minute, us all in awe of course, unable to get the camera. We enjoyed the moment and then headed down the road, after he ran back up into the trees. About 5 minutes down the road I told Tob I wanted to go back and look at the prints and the kids did as well so we headed back. I had the camera out just in case this time not thinking we would really see him again. Sure enough we got back to the spot and he was trying to cross the road again, ran across into the meadow and then back across the road and up into the trees. I wasn't quick enough with the camera but it's a sight we won't forget. It's rare to see them so close in the middle of the day. This happened about 2:30 in the afternoon. I was just pleased that he was slow enough for the kids to get to see him each time. Very impressive animal. Makes me think more seriously about keeping a gun with me while I run and bike as this was in an area where I frequently trail run/mountain bike alone.
After we got home, the kids started building snow forts with their friends in the front yard and we lost power for a couple hours due to a large turkey striking a telephone pole. The kids played hide and seek with the neighbors in their house for awhile and then were summoned home to help with dinner. As you can see by Tob's face, sharp knives + kids in the dark= Stress. After cooking pirogies, green beans, and fruit salad we played a board game, lights came on, we read Charlie Brown's Christmas and headed to bed. It was a good day. We missed Isaac's birthday party due to icy roads unfortunately, but we will see him soon! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISAAC!! Hope you had a good day buddy!

A turkey striking a telephone pole?!! Yikes! And a cougar, cool... too bad you didnt get a picture of it.
That was a BIG paw print! And who takes your photos when you're out in the woods getting a tree? Oh! Do you put your camera on a timer or something? And seriously, a large turkey striking a telephone pole? I wish I had a great story for our power being out ALL DAY last Saturday. I'll have to come up with one. It was a flying Duck. No! A Beaver!
