"She can call me flower if she wants to. I don't mind"
Shortly after the tragic accident with HOP a good friend offered to give one of her chickens to Lex. Today we were able to pick up "Flower" on our little road trip to Grandpa Neal. Flower rode home in a cat carrier and seemed ok with it. It didn't take long to come up with her name as we all rolled down the road with our windows down gasping for fresh air.....
We promptly fed our chick when we got her home and then took her out to meet her new friends. At first they pecked at her and then she showed them her skills. Yes she can fly and I won't say our chickens can't, but they never really have. Flying gave her an advantage, at least for a very short period of time.....
Then, no-name (Nojah's chicken). At this point Flower's looking a little nervous, showing the "Oh crap here they've figured it out" look.
After getting situated, they seemed to roost well together. Flower was very submissive and didn't cause a lot of trouble so I think she will be just fine. I think it helped that she taught them a new trick right from the get go. Now they can all get up on the roost and snuggle together and I guess we'll see what tomorrow brings.A HUGE thank you to Candi and her family for generously giving up one of their chicks. This sweet "fowl" smelling bird made her day.

Personally, I love that "oh crap they've figured it out look".. you captured it so well!
I love their names!
It's funny the difference of what makes Lex happy and what made me happy as a little girl. I was all about Barbies/dresses/jewelry (a true city girl): Lex gets a chicken and is thrilled!
